Responsive lighting.
Lighting motion explorations.
The centerpiece of the new informal learning space at Occidental College’s historic Johnson Hall, recently reimagined by Belzberg Architects, is a two-story wall of sculpted glass with reactive LED lighting and ten embedded displays that showcase the depth and dimension of student work being developed and explored. I intervened in the animation of the lighting motion in regards to the wall's different modes of presentation.
The other component is a work tool, in the form of a web application, allowing students to both organize their research and feed the wall by displaying this research in the common place. This tool is a product on its own, for which Second Story was responsible for the backend architecture, the fornt end development, UX and UI design. My role was to design the whole set of interfaces from a set of main screens - including variants with different viewing, editing and access modes - in collaboration with the UX designer and frontend developer, and following the exhaustive set of functionalities agreed with the client.

Web App.
Student research, dispatches from around the globe, and other curated content generated using the web app enliven the space, providing an insight into the breadth of experience that shapes a liberal arts education.
