Ophidian is an ongoing series that started as an exploration of path randomization, using the shape of serpents as a territory for a visual exploration of various patterns. Random parameters make the general shape, curves, location and detail of the scales always different from one output to another.

For this screenprint project, the code that generated the drawing is roughly the same than the one I use for the plotted versions, with extra code for the star-shaped pattern towards the corners. Framing lines and “Ophidian” lettering were added afterwards. Since the screenprinted process basically means to create a stencil, all prints in this series feature the exact same drawing. Their uniqueness will come from the delicious physical imperfections of the craft itself.

Limited series of 26 prints. Printed by yours truly at Jaune Forêt in Nantes.

Posters are signed and numbered by hand at the front, and are delivered with a certificate of authenticity. The handmade screenprinting process is never perfect, so some minor imperfections may appear (uneven covering, minor color offset). All posters have been quality checked. You may ask a photo of the poster prior to the order. Avoid direct sunlight.

The hot pink ink here is fluorescent, which means two things: it’s amazing, and it’s a color that’s absolutely impossible to render on a screen. I gave my best shot in editing to respect the hue and saturation, and part of it meant not making the paper quite white on the pictures. The actual color shines much more.
